The 26th brought the last day of riding and a trip through the mountains of central Utah before dropping back down onto the valley floor to Cedar City. On this day the riders backtracked on a section of stunning Hwy. 12 and Hwy. 89 and then turned onto Hwy. 14 and headed west toward Cedar City.
They headed into the mountains and once again enjoyed riding amongst the aspens, lakes, streams and fir trees of the high country. The country is awe-inspiring and breathtaking. The air is so clear that every little nuance that wafts on the air is exciting to the senses.
Then the riders drove through the Cedar Breaks National Park. This incredible act of nature seems to be totally out of place in an area full of aspen, fur, lakes and streams. It is an area similar to the Bryce Canyon but different in its context and character. It blends remarkably with the area as a contrast to the mountain like area that surrounds it and adds a sense of mystery as to how and why it was formed.
Heading west the riders will make their last push down off of the Markagaunt Plateau on Hwy. 14 down into the town of Cedar City where they will have a catered Dutch Oven meal at a small tree lined park on the edge of town.
The night of the 26th will bring the last night together for the riders at the Abbey Inn where it all started just five, all-to-short, days before. The campfire kept going until midnight and everyone shared deeply from his heart about the experience of this year Rolling Rally. It was a time to talk about the wonderful and sometimes indescribable sights, sounds and experiences that everyone had on the journey.
The rally encompassed eight days, seven nights, approximately twenty two hours of riding time, covering approximately thirteen hundred miles: A lot of time in pools, hot-tubs, steak houses and Chuck wagon Bar-B-Q’s. There was a lot of laughter, some tears, and always moments where something that touched the heart brings a wish that someone else could have experienced the joy of the journey with The Hill Gang.
